A History of Excellence in Codec Technology

4i2i is a privately held company, founded by Martyn and Laura Riley in 1995. Profitable since 1996, 4i2i has enjoyed average revenue growth of over 50% since inception.

Headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, 4i2i is focussed on providing world class video codec technology. Our codecs are designed to deliver the best possible quality in cost effective, single chip implementations for both ASICs and FPGAs.

4i2i has been delivering world class codec technology for over 10 years:

  • 1996: 1st Software H.261 core released and licensed ECC core
  • 1997: Licensed 1st video encoder core (H.263)
  • 1998: 1st ADSL core licensed
  • 2000: H.263 decoder core
  • 2002: H.264 baseline encoder core
  • 2004: H.264 baseline decoder core
  • 2005: AVC decoder ships in leading MP3 player and licensed 1st MPEG2 decoder core
  • 2006: 4i2i licenses 100th IP core
  • 2006: AVC/H.264 High Profile decoder
  • 2007: AVC/H.264 High Profile encoder and MPEG 2 encoder core

Founded on a solid financial basis, we have received official recognition for our achievements through several Deloitte Fast50 and Fast500 awards and an International Business Award in 2007. Most notably, in 2007, we were honoured to receive the Queens Award for Enterprise in the International Trade Category.
